by the grace of Allah SWT I visited Manduk barangay (village) in Davao city, Mindanao Philippine last Saturday, 29 March 08. The village is famous for its inhabitants, the Moro Muslim of Mindanao. The site visit was part of community outbreak organized by Woman Studies and Resource Center and Ateneo de Davao during our three days conference on Womanhood. This was my second visit to Davao in four months. At the first visit last November I visited an orphanage and abandoned children house managed by Ateneo de Davao and also a Ateneo-targetted village community. Manduk village or Manduk Barangay is situated in Davao city, around 40 - 45 minutes from city center. Inhabited by 590 households, mostly Moro muslim. The first Moro inhabitants came here in 1977, as a result of forced expulsion from other places in Mindanao. The community is now having three masjids and madrasah. The trip to Manduk was quite interesting. We passed market, school, banana plantation owned by Lorenzo, golf course, real estate, hilly roads, as well as bushes and urban forest. Women NGO and Women Political Party (Gabriela) frequently visit the community, to give support as well as to ask for support. Please find below the pictures of Moro children of Manduk Village :
